WhatssApp MAC Guide Step 3: 

Verify and Configure your WhatsApp Mac Installation.

• Now if you have installed WhatsApp on your Mac.
• Launch WhatsApp on your Mac.
• Agree to the Ts & Cs.
• Enter your country code and then your mobile number. If it asks you for a phone verification or a text message, select any one of the two.
•  This text message or phone verification will be delivered shortly.
• Now enter the verification code on WhatsApp Mac screen
• WhatsApp is now Installed on your Apple mac Computer.

If you had WhatsApp on your mobile phone it will no longer work. It will give you a verification error. Should you click on verify again, then your installation of WhatsApp on your Apple Mac will stop working. DONT DO THIS TOO MANY TIMES.

WhatsApp is blocking unofficial install of whatsapp messenger.
